Doesn't your heart quicken just a bit when you open the mailbox to find a handwritten letter addressed to you? It's seems more exciting when it's not even your birthday and weren't expecting anything but bills. One way to keep the art of letter writing alive is by creating a writing box.

A shoe box will do, or you can buy a pretty storage one. The point is that this will be a special container where you will keep everything you need in one place. (Make sure it is out of reach of curious children who are hunting for treasure boxes!) Because it is so portable, you can take your thoughts and supplies to a bench at the park, a quiet coffee house, the public library- almost anywhere. Keep in mind you'll need a flat smooth surface upon which to write. In a pinch the box top can double as a mini desk.
